The undefeated World Super Featherweight Champion was the talk of the sports world following his TKO win over Ricardo Nunez Saturday night on SHOWTIME.
WBA Super World Super Featherweight Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis continued his rapid ascent toward superstardom with a dominant second-round TKO win over Ricardo Nunez on Saturday night.
The bout, Davis’ first in his hometown since becoming world champion, drew a sell-out crowd of 14,686 to Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. (Full recap here.)
Seemingly everyone else in the area who couldn’t be there watched it live on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing. The card drew an impressive 1.95 metered market ranking for Baltimore and a solid .90 in New York and .73 in Philadelphia.
“Tonight, we showed out,” Davis said following his win. “It’s amazing to fight in front of my hometown fans, my family. It’s an incredible feeling. It’s not just a win for me, it’s a win for Baltimore. I want to do it again.”
Davis wasn’t just a hit in the northeast. He drew over 200,000 searches on Saturday alone, making him number one on Google Trends for that day. Further, two different social media videos of Davis’ KO of Nunez drew over 1.2 million views each and counting.
“Tank” Davis is unquestionably the biggest star in boxing’s lower divisions today—and he still hasn’t reached his ceiling.
